Futurama fans can breathe a big sigh of relief as there will be no need to recast the show. The creators of the series say they are thrilled the animated show’s five original voice actors have agreed to stay on. Matt Groening and David X. Cohen praised the new deals reached by 20th Century Fox TV and series cast members John DiMaggio, Billy West, Katey Sagal, Maurice LaMarche and Tress MacNeille, Variety reported Friday.
“We are thrilled to have our incredible cast back,” Groening and Cohen said in a statement. “The call has already gone out to the animators to put the mouths back on the characters.” The new deals for the comedy’s five voice actors come after 20th Century decided to resurrect the canceled animated series for 26 new episodes. The new episodes of “Futurama,” which originally aired from 1999 to 2003, are to air in mid-2010 on Comedy Central.
Variety said the contracts were reached after the two sides ironed out salary issues. Details were not reported.
I am so happy and i’m really looking forward to the new season. I know it will be awesome.
Wow!!! Finaly i’ve heard the news i’ve been waiting for. i hoped that the original cast would come back to the show, this is great news for me and i’m sure that any other futurama fans would agree that the show just wouldn’t be the same with a new cast no matter how much they sound like the original cast there will be a noticeable difference that would ruin the show for me. Now i just can’t wait for the new season to be released!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank god!! we may all breath a sigh of relief…..(sigh)
Great news!
As I said, keeping original cast voices was one of the priorities for the future of the show. Now, they have very nice chance to prove that Futurama is a great show and people gonna love them again!
Can’t wait for the fist episode of the new season!!!
Does anyone know if the episodes will air on the Comedy Network in Canada? I would assume it will because new South Park episodes air in Canada the Friday after they are released in the U.S. If not, there is always the interwebs.
YEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would’ve been boycotting this if they had used new voice actors. No, actually, I wouldn’t – I couldn’t keep myself away even if they all had stupid new voices. But it would have sucked, so this is the best news I’ve heard in ages.
Woooooooooooo-Hoooooooooooooo!!!!!!! 😀
This is the best
Great news. Really great news. Let’s hope the show’s return lives up to expectations, and what high expectations they are.
great but the news is misleading the “new episodes that will air next year are the ones that air form 1999 to 2003 IS A FALSE STATMENT THEY ARE NEW EPISODES NOT RERUNS NEW TO COMEDY CENTRAL ITS GREAT THE SHOW IS BACK
I think church has misinterpreted the news, they weren’t saying they were airing reruns. Merely that the show originally aired in 1999-2003 🙂
But yeah wonderful news, callooh callay Frabjulious day
YAY! No new voice actors!
I am exited because I am a big Matt Groening fan. I have all 11 seasons of the simpsons and all 4 movies and volumes of futurama.
they are mnaking volume 5 of futurama movies and it will be divided into 16 episodes and have a hypnotoad episode and the lost adventure
Last I saw Futurama, they were traveling into the depths of a wormhole. Here’s hoping that they pick up the new season right where they left off “Into the Wild Green Yonder”
