The much discussed mystery as to who would feature on the cover of the upcoming DVD (and now Blu-ray) release of The Complete 13th Season is finally answered today with the release of the package art and release date by TvShowsOnDVD.
Right now, the only other information available is limited, but it will put many fans’ minds at rest when they learn that all 22 episodes will feature commentaries, meaning the DVD releases are back to form since the farce that was the Season 20 release in January.
The official press release reads:
Talk about lucky! Season 13 of The Simpsons arrives on Blu-ray and DVD with 22 hilarious episodes and tons of fun-filled extras. So grab a donut and pull up a couch to see Lisa becoming a Buddhist, Bart living in a plastic bubble, Homer doing community service (which lands him in the electric chair) and the Simpsons offending the entire nation of Brazil, plus your favorite couch gags and a slew of celebrity guest voices!
As usual, the set will feature 4 discs. The suggested retail price is $49.98. However, there will also be a Blu-ray release, which will feature just 3 discs; you’ll pay an extra $10 for an upgrade to HD sound quality and a slightly crisper picture, though still in the original 1:33:1 aspect ratio.
Stay tuned for more information and the European and Australian release dates. Edit: thanks to some of our commenters, we now know it will be released in Australia on September 29th, and in the UK on September 13th.
Can’t wait to see what the back cover looks like.
First of all Which is better to buy: blu-ray or dvd.
Dvd isn’t as good in picture but I can play it in dvd players when I’m on the road.
Blu-ray has better quality but that means you can only play it on ps3 or a blu-ray player.
Second, figures it would be nother random simpson character, and I’d bet money if was dumber that the menu is supposed to be related to Ralph. Like it will be at movies because Ralph is holding movie tickets.
Or it could be prison themed because his dad is chief of police.
You can think and probably not care. If you read this, then that’s ok for me
In the case of season 13, DVD is the better buy. It’s $10 cheaper, you get to see the art of all 4 discs and menus and the video quality is equatable to Blu-Ray as the episodes aren’t HD. Also, the DVDs can be played abywhere.
The movie and seasons 20+ are the only worthwhile Blu-Ray releases.
can’t wait to see the limited edition head box! (at least I hope there is one)
Great artwork, can’t wait to see the inside designs! Mr Burns should be season 14 packaging. Also, Sanity (One of Australia’s largest DVD stores) is saying a release date of September 29th
In hmv(a UK store)today i asked if they knew anything about a season 13 release in the uk and they said it will be released on September 13th 2010. I checked on the website and it’s true. Hooray!! However they know about the limited edition but not that it’s on blu-ray. weird!
is the limited edition on blu-ray? that was a stupid question. It probably will anyway and does anyone know if season 20 will be released in the UK? Although there aren’t any special features which is a bummer some of the episodes are really good!
Thanks for the release info guys, post updated! Ashley, the UK won’t get the 20th season on DVD, as far as I know. It would have been announced by now if it was.
Any idea if there’s commentary for every episode?
That was the most disappointing thing with season 20 – that it came out so quick and had no special features or commentary.
There will be commentary on all 22 episodes.
The original poster should have mentioned that. I swear, sometimes I wish someone consulted me for news on this website, or took the suggestions I sent in. I think it needs a lot of help with postings and news sometimes.
Err…the post says that.
“Right now, the only other information available is limited, but it will put many fans’ minds at rest when they learn that all 22 episodes will feature commentaries”
So it does! Ha!
I still think this site needs a lot of help. Especially with some of the writing and the “news” articles.
Right, well feel free to take that up with Adam, the site’s owner. I’m just a blogger here.
Bet this will be an elementary school boxset.
Will they still be releasing the head moulds? =(
Why is Ralph??
Thanks Brian! i guess we’ll just have to wait and see. after all we have this to look forward to.
Mr. Burns for 14
Ned Flanders for 15
Comic Book Guy taken off 12 and replaced with ANYONE
Why is Ralph, out of all the cast on the cover? I might just not buy the dvd cuz of dat.
Very happpy to finally hear some news about the boxsets……it’s been so long!
it will come to sweden / eroupe same day i think
Although I’m glad that season 13 is finally being released, it does ponder me why they would release it on Blu- ray? I own a blu- ray player and love it! But clearly they’re cashing in on the Blu- ray boom.
