Homer’s Knockout Blow For Cowell
On the eve of the airing of ‘Smart And Smarter’ in the UK, Pop/American Idol, and X-Factor judge Simon Cowell has spoken out to the media saying that being a guest star on The Simpsons was the most “intimidating” thing he had ever done. As British viewers prepare to watch their born and bred local star in animated form, Cowell says he was “very proud” to be part of the show. “It’s genuinely my favourite programme. When I got the telephone call I thought it was a wind-up but it was true,” he said. “It was the most intimidating thing I have ever done in my life. I only had one condition – make me handsome and make me young – as you can see that’s been achieved.” The episode airs on Sky One on Sunday at 6:30pm. Read More >>>

End Of Road For Simpsons?
Warning: Article from “The Sun” in the UK, who told us David Beckham was to appear on the show amongst other things. “Television’s most dysfunctional family are to be axed froms screens before they get too boring. The man behind Springfield’s favourite residents – The Simpsons – says it is becoming increasingly hard to develop new storylines. Matt Groening has signed a deal with the voices behind Bart, Homer, Marge, Lisa and co taking them up to a 19th series in 2008. But he only hopes to do one more series after that in 2009. Matt, 50, told The Sun: “The Simpsons’ success has been unbelievable. “But the show gets harder and harder every year because we are trying to keep surprising the audience, and trying to surprise ourselves. “I’d love to get to 365 episodes, so there’s one for every day of the year with no repeats.” He said the final five series would see some of the more peripheral characters, such as Bart’s mate Milhouse, getting more prominent roles. “I think we’ll see more and more stories about the other characters of Springfield,” he said.

Marge Vs Queen At Christmas
Marge Simpson will go head-to-head with the Queen by delivering this year’s alternative Christmas message, Channel 4 said today. The blue-haired cartoon character will address the nation from her home in Springfield. Marge is expected to spread a message of family harmony learned from years as the long-suffering wife of Homer and mum of Bart, Lisa and Maggie. Dysfunctional they may be but The Simpsons have been praised for promoting family values. The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, is a fan and said the show represents “sense, humility & virtue”. Marge’s 10-minute message will be broadcast at 3pm on Christmas Day, the same time as the Queen delivers her seasonal message. The alternative speech has previously been given by the likes of Ali G and Sharon Osbourne. Read More >>>

Archbishop May Guest Star
Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Rowan Williams would look “very seriously” at an invitation to appear on animated comedy The Simpsons. The Sunday Times reported the show’s producers were poised to invite the head of the Church of England on to the animated show. Dr Williams has admitted he is a big fan of the show. “We’d look at it very seriously – it would be a very interesting thing to do,” his spokesman told BBC. Dr Williams gave an interview to ITV1’s My Favourite Hymns saying the programme was “on the side of the angels”, the Sunday Times reported. Dr Williams has previously publicly announced his support for the show, and its accident-prone star, Homer. The Simpsons producer Al Jean reportedly said they had been flattered by Dr Williams’ support and “we’d love to have him on the show”. Read More >>>

“D’oh!” Tops British Catchphrases
Homer Simpson’s emphatic exclamation “D’oh!” has topped a British poll of favorite TV comedy catchphrases, easily beating an array of home-grown classics. The bumbling hero of American animated TV series “The Simpsons” — who often accompanies his trademark saying with a slap to the forehead — topped Nuts Magazine’s poll with 34% of the vote. “Doh” has even found a home in the Oxford English Dictionary, which defines it as: “Expressing frustration at the realization that things have turned out badly or not as planned or that one has just said or done something foolish. Also implying that another person has said or done something foolish.” The rest of the poll’s top 10, published Wednesday, all come from British television hits. Read More >>>

Simpsons / Friends Crossover
Warning: The following story originated from British tabloids, previously famous for spreading news of a David Beckham cameo that wasn’t to be, and are generally unreliable. The six actors from Friends are to reunite for an episode of The Simpsons, the Daily Star newspaper reports today. In the episode – which has been rushed into production for transmission early next year – the cast will provide voices of guests at a gay resort accidentally booked by the Simpsons family. “The writing team has worked overtime to produce the perfect script,” an unnamed source said (convincing, huh). “It’s funny but shocking, with all six playing gay characters.” The episode is said to be lined up for a possible post-Superbowl airing on FOX. Personally I wont believe a word of it until I hear it from a reliable source, and you should do the same.

Marge Simpson Voted Top Mom
UK: Marge Simpson has been voted a top role model for mothers, beating Britain’s First Lady Cherie Blair and celebrity Victoria Beckham. Sky News reports that the star of the Simpsons TV cartoon series was chosen by young people as a good example of motherhood. Over 400 people were questioned in the Mothers’ Union poll, an Anglican charity dedicated to promoting marriage and family life. Marge reportedly claimed 23 percent of the vote. The poll found that youngsters especially admired her down-to-earth approach and advice, such as telling her three children to “listen to your heart, and not the voices in your head”, said the report.

Gervais Turns Down Simpsons
Ricky Gervais has turned down a part in The Simpsons and a string of big-money US deals because he wants to stay in Britain. The 42-year-old star of The Office was flooded with Hollywood offers after the show won two Golden Globe awards. The deals included The Simpsons role and his own major network show. But Gervais said: “I don’t want to pop up as a Mr Brit on every other television programme. I need to go home to where it rains.” His only US TV role will be as a bomb maker in the spy show Alias, which will be shown in the spring, says The Sun. He will write and produce the American version of The Office before concentrating on a sitcom about insurance salesmen.

Cowell Talks About Appearance
Simon Cowell is cut down to size in a classic TV moment by Homer Simpson. The acid-tongued pop impresario suffers the wrath of Homer after he makes baby daughter Maggie cry. Cowell is the latest celebrity to land a starring part in the long-running cartoon series. And he said yesterday: “It’s the best thing I’ve ever been asked to do.” The episode, “Smart And Smarter,” sees Cowell given the role of a nursery school admissions officer. He is confronted by Homer after he makes cruel comments about Maggie when she fails an Idol-style audition for his nursery. The episode is set to be a smash in the States, where Cowell has become a hate figure for his acidic put downs on American Idol. An insider said: “Simon Cowell made his name in Britain for being stuck-up and arrogant and he went one better in the States. Read More >>>

David Brent Heading To Springfield
Ricky Gervais of BBCs “The Office” is reportedly going to revive his role as David Brent in a cameo for The Simpsons. The Sunday Mirror says Gervais has been snapped up to appear in the cartoon after his success at the Golden Globes. He will join Homer and Marge after getting lost on holiday in America. The Office won two gongs at the Golden Globe Awards – Best TV Comedy and Best Comedy Actor for Gervais. A Simpsons insider tells the paper: “Since then America has gone David Brent crazy. Matching him and Homer will be comedy genius – a perfect pairing.” After all the false claims about David Beckham scoring a guest role on The Simpsons, we’re not sure whether this article holds much truth, but if we do find out any more we’ll be sure to let you know first.
