Veteran writer for The Simpsons, Don Payne is now taking a bigger share of the showbiz spotlight, with his feature film My Super Ex-Girlfriend opening on Friday. When asked about The Simpsons, Payne revealed an upcoming episode in which Natalie Portman will star.

“They’re working on the movie right now. I’m not working on that. But I’m looking forward to actually seeing a new Simpson story which I haven’t had anything to do with — on the big screen, no less! I have an episode coming up which features Natalie Portman as a guest voice. In the episode, Bart accidentally saves the town, and they grant him one wish. He decides he wants a driver’s license. He drives to the next town over, where Natalie Portman’s character lives. She’s a teenager, and she thinks Bart’s 16, since he’s driving — and they start dating. It actually turns into a very sweet story.”

According to a posting on Metallica’s official web site, their much-anticipated appearance on “The Simpsons” will air as the program’s season premiere on September 10, 2006 on the Fox network. The four members of Metallica recorded their voices for the program last September.

Metallica’s James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett — along with members of Arch Enemy and Nevermore — have previously lent their voices to the cartoon series “Death Clock Metalocalypse”. This is their first appearance on The Simpsons.

Fox had unveiled its fall schedule today, revealling the premiere date for Season 18 of The Simpsons. The network’s latest primetime premiere date before the Major League Baseball playoffs begin in October will be Sunday, September. 10, when it rolls out the season premiere of The Simpsons as well as other comedies American Dad, Family Guy and The War At Home.

This is the second year in a row that The Simpsons will air before November, and as with last year it is expected that three episodes will air during the month of September. No premiere episode has been announced yet but episodes ‘The Mook, the Chef, the Wife, and Her Homer’ or ‘Jazzy And The Pussycats’ are likely contenders. We’ll keep you updated during this off-season dry spell.

Earlier this week we broke that the White Stripes were to appear on The Simpsons. MTV.com has given further details on their appearance.

The Stripes have been tapped to appear in an upcoming episode of the long-running FOX ‘toon, scheduled to air sometime this fall. In the episode, titled “Jazzy and the Pussycats,” Jack and Meg White find themselves in the middle of a family feud when Homer and Marge buy a drum kit for Bart, who becomes a jazz drummer, much to the dismay of his musically inclined sister, Lisa. In one scene — an homage to the Stripes’ clip for “The Hardest Button to Button,” Bart bashes his kit in his bedroom, down the street, through the halls of Springfield Elementary and into an intersection, where he meets up with the Detroit duo.

According to a spokesperson for FOX, Jack and Meg recorded their lines in New York on November 30, before Jack lost his voice and was ordered by doctors not to speak. The episode isnt expected to air until season 18.

Kiefer Sutherland and Mandy Moore are the latest stars adding their voices to cult cartoon series The Simpsons. Sutherland will play an Army colonel in an upcoming episode, which will see Homer Simpson mistaken for a terrorist. Singer/actress Mandy Moore will portray a sexy dominatrix named Tabitha Vixx

Jack White of band The White Stripes will show up in an episode where Homer and Marge buy a drum kit for Bart and he becomes a jazz drumer, making Lisa jealous. Looking even further ahead, signed for Season 18’s Treehouse Of Horror are Richard Lewis and Fran Drescher.

Today it has been revealed that Michael Chabon, Jonathan Franzen, and and Gore Vidal will join Tom Wolfe in his guest appearance on The Simpsons. “We started with the idea of Moe as Charles Bukowski,” explains Matt Warburton, who wrote the episode. “We brought Lisa in as the person who discovers in scuzzy, barfly Moe something that we’ve never seen before: a poet.” Antics ensue, with Tom Wolfe and fellow guest stars Vidal, Chabon and Franzen voicing themselves. All were thrilled to participate.” CalendarLive also revealed early sketches of Tom Wolfe Simpsonized.

The production code of HABF19 suggests the episode, which has yet to be titled, will air at the beginning of Season 18.

Tom Wolfe, declared by some to be America’s greatest living writer, will appear as himself in an upcoming episode on The Simpsons. According to The New York Post, the author of such books as “The Bonfire Of The Vanities” (the title of which was used for season premiere Bonfire Of The Manatees) recorded his lines in Los Angeles and posed for photos to guide the animators. Wolfe says that The Simpsons is the only show he watches because it doesn’t have a laugh track. He said, “I feel like I finally made it.” Wolfe joins authors such as Stephen King, Thomas Pynchon, and Tom Clancy to lend their otherwise anonymous voices to the show. It is expected that his episode will appear as part of the current season beyond March.

The members of Metallica were in the studio today (Sept. 20) to record their voices for an upcoming episode of “The Simpsons”. The show will air sometime in May 2006, so you have plenty of time to set those recorders. More information will be made available soon. The image on the right is a fan’s mockup drawn in 2000 and is in no way affiliated with the show. Metallica have been keeping a relatively low profile since completing their world tour in late 2004. The band is expected to begin working on a new album sometime before the end of this year.
