CBS took a gamble this week by moving its new show “My Big Fat Greek Life” to 8pm Sundays, to compete against The Simpsons. So how did the shows fare? The gamble paid off in its first week, as The Simpsons ratings were a far cry from a fortnight earlier in which it celebrated its 300th episode. “CBS took 8 p.m. thanks to the strong ‘premiere’ of My Big Fat Greek Life. After a strong debut after Everybody Loves Raymond on Monday night, the Nia Vardalos sitcom showed legs with a 10.6/16, boosting ratings for Becker, 8.6/13, as well. FOX finished second with two episodes of The Simpsons. The new episode, ‘A Star Is Born-Again’ with guest voice Helen Fielding, scored a 7.7/12, while a repeat landed a 7.4/11.” Still, second place isn’t bad, nor is it a new position for The Simpsons to be in. But with a new show, nobody can be too sure what is to come in future weeks.

Lesbian Kiss Shocks Viewers
“The Simpsons is still making news these days but for all the wrong reasons. A raunchy scene in the cartoon classic stunned millions of viewers when it was broadcast in the United States this week. The episode shows a sizzling lesbian kiss as Homer’s schoolgirl daughter Lisa prepares for a spelling competition. In the episode titled “I’m Spelling As Fast As I Can”, the anxious youngster falls asleep as she lies in bed worrying about a bribe to throw the contest and get free entry into the college of her choice. She finds finds herself dreaming about the ‘seven sisters’ and as two toga-clad goddesses entice her to join them at their college, the heavenly pair move up close and share a tender full-on kiss.” Read More >>>

Last Night’s Ratings Are In
A triple helping of The Simpsons, including the 300th episode for the animated series, led FOX into a tie with CBS atop the Sunday ratings. Each network won two hours on the evening. FOX averaged a 9.2 rating/14 share in primetime, the same numbers as CBS. ABC followed with a 7.5/11 and NBC scored a 6.7/10. Among adults 18-49, FOX won easily with an 8.5 rating, followed by NBC’s 4.5, ABC at 3.9 and CBS at 3.0.

Review Tonight’s Episodes
The Simpsons’ big night has finally arrived! Once you’ve seen the 300th episode (well, 302nd) and the new “I’m Spelling As Fast As I Can,” feel free to review each at the General Discussion forum of NoHomers.net. Enjoy tonight’s 90 minutes of OFF, folks!

Still A Riot At.. 302? D’oh!
“Yes, tonight’s thoroughly manic Simpsons episode, “Barting Over” is neither the 300th to be produced nor the 300th to be aired, as it has been widely promoted on Fox and in publications such as this. That honour actually belongs to “The Strong Arms Of The Ma,” which aired on Feb 2. It’s difficult to find a straight answer why milestone status has been bestowed on tonight’s episode. Some say that the 300 figure doesn’t account for two early holiday specials, while Fox maintains that there was some discrepancy between the original, scheduled broadcast date and the number of episodes that were eventually aired leading up to it. Conspiracy theories abound in online Simpsons discussion groups as to why this is so.

It’s 300th Episode Eve
There have been a lot of Simpsons articles celebrating 300 episodes this week. Where we’ve seen fit, we posted most of these but they have become a bit repetitive. You wont miss out though. On the eve of the event, here’s some we’ve missed:

300th Not Up To Standards
“Sunday night marks a television milestone worth celebrating. The Simpsons airs its 300th episode, a powerful rebuttal to the plague of nightmarish reality shows which are collectively leading some to believe the future for scripted programming is dim. It’s too bad, then, that episode 300 is not a great one (opinionated spoilers follow).

Homer Responds To Fans
“Fans of The Simpsons have received an email from Homer after his internet address appeared in a recent episode in the US. Viewers emailed in after watching the episode in which a private eye emailed him at that address. Executive producer Al Jean said the show’s writer-producer Matt Selman registered the email address ‘chunkylover53@aol.com’ before the episode aired. He has since replied to fans who emailed in following the episode.

300th Episode Confusion
Fox, being the geniuses that they are, have decided to slot another new episode between The Dad Who Knew Too Little (episode 299) and Barting Over (episode 300). Episode 299.5 if you like, titled Strong Arms Of The Ma will be the next Season 14 episode, to air on February 2 as a double feature alongside a rerun of Large Marge, which aired last year.
While it appears that “Strong Arms..” is now the 300th episode, Fox still insists that they will advertise “Barting Over” as the 300th episode to go to air on February 16th, as this has been the plan for months. Fox felt it necessary to add another episode so that fans were not without a new episode for four weeks. Programming at its best, folks. Thanks goes to snpp.com for some of the information presented in this article.

The Simpsons Tweak Disney
The Simpsons are descending on Orlando! The stars of the long-running Fox series will visit a theme park called EFCOT in the episode ‘Special Edna’ (1/5). In the episode, the family wins a free trip to Orlando after Bart nominates Edna Krabappel, for a Teacher of the Year Award — a competition that sounds a lot like Disney’s annual American Teacher Awards. The kids try to guess their destination, but Homer’s worst fears are realized when they spot the large, distinctive Future Sphere from their plane as they approach Orlando.

Holmes Meets The Simpsons
Larry Holmes surprised audiences of “The Simpsons” on Sunday with a cameo as himself. The “Easton Assassin” former world heavyweight champion met up with the animated television family as they watched a Springfield Isotopes hockey game from a luxury box. Bart Simpson landed a few body blows on Holmes, who was slimmed down as an animated character without having to do any running or jumping rope. The episode marked Holmes’ first appearance as a cartoon. He said Wednesday he went to New York City about a year ago to record his voice and earned “a couple thousand dollars” for his time. He will also take home residuals from reruns in the future. Read More >>>

Ratings: OFF Shafts Miners
It was close, but the Pennsylvania miners wound up besting the Martin & Lewis story in Sunday’s battle of the 9-11 p.m. original telefilms. And for all the sweep specials, Fox’s 8 p.m. mainstay, The Simpsons, was still the most-watched program overall on Sunday. Simpsons combined with an NFL overrun helped Fox win the night in the adults 18-49 demo (a 5.9 rating/14 share), while ABC prevailed in viewers (15.6 million), according to preliminary estimates from Nielsen Media Research. Simpsons averaged 17.5 million viewers and a 7.9/18 in adults 18-49, which carried the day for Fox despite the significant slide registered at 8:30 p.m. by “King of the Hill” (13.1 million, 5.9/13) and at 9 p.m. by “Malcolm in the Middle” (9.9 million, 4.2/9).
