It was close, but the Pennsylvania miners wound up besting the Martin & Lewis story in Sunday’s battle of the 9-11 p.m. original telefilms. And for all the sweep specials, Fox’s 8 p.m. mainstay, The Simpsons, was still the most-watched program overall on Sunday. Simpsons combined with an NFL overrun helped Fox win the night in the adults 18-49 demo (a 5.9 rating/14 share), while ABC prevailed in viewers (15.6 million), according to preliminary estimates from Nielsen Media Research. Simpsons averaged 17.5 million viewers and a 7.9/18 in adults 18-49, which carried the day for Fox despite the significant slide registered at 8:30 p.m. by “King of the Hill” (13.1 million, 5.9/13) and at 9 p.m. by “Malcolm in the Middle” (9.9 million, 4.2/9). D’oh! Homer’s Still A Hit
Another ratings report, this one sums it all up. E! Online has posted its Neilsen ratings summary, and The Simpsons cracked the top 10 for the prime-time week ended Sunday. The 14th season debut Treehouse Of Horror XIII was watched by 16.7 million diehard fans, landing the show in tenth position on Neilsen’s ratings meter. In contrast, NBC’s Scrubs and Will And Grace landed in eighth and ninth positions respectively. FOX Wins Sunday Ratings Battle
Even without the World Series, FOX was able to handily win Sunday night in North America, thanks to a couple of series premieres and the Simpsons Halloween special. The Simpsons’ “Treehouse of Horror XIII,” 8.9/13, and the season premiere of King of the Hill, 7.0/10, were tops at 8 p.m. The rating numbers for The Simpsons was the best start for the series in five years.
