Hank Azaria, voice of hundreds of regular characters on The Simpsons today spoke to the Chicago Sun Times regarding his new series “Huff”. They took the time to ask him what his thoughts on Matt Groening’s comments that the next year(s) of The Simpsons may be the last. He responded: “It’s so funny, every year or two, Matt says something like that and everybody goes crazy and stirs things up. Several years ago, he said something like this and I must have received 30 calls from people asking me if it’s true. Matt is a tremendous part of ”The Simpsons.” He created it, he has remained involved, but he’s not the guy that makes that call. I’d be shocked if we didn’t do one more year — besides the one we’re working on now — and I’d think we might go three or four more years.” One thing’s for sure, every time Groening does announce a possible end, the media has a field day so why wouldn’t he want the free promotion?
Hank Azaria has snagged this year’s Emmy for voiceover performance, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced Monday. Azaria won for the episode “Moe Baby Blues,” in which hard-boiled bartender Moe takes a shine to baby Maggie. In addition to Moe, Azaria gives voices to Simpsons characters such as Comic Book Guy and Chief Wiggum. He has won in the voiceover category twice before; he won an Emmy for his supporting performance in the ABC telepic Tuesdays With Morrie. Azaria is also up for guest actor in a comedy for his work last season on Friends. Congratulations to him on his win (and other nomination) from the staff here at The Simpsons Channel!
Showtime has signed Simpsons voice actor Hank Azaria to star in a drama pilot about a guy suffering a midlife crisis. Azaria will play the title role in “Huff,” which is about a psychiatrist who feels his life going off the rails. The two-hour pilot is scheduled to begin shooting in August in Canada, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Bob Lowry write the script for “Huff,” and Mike Newell will direct it. Both men will also receive executive producer credits along with Cam Jones. Azaria has won two Emmys for his voice work on “The Simpsons,” in which he plays Apu, Moe the bartender, Comic Book Guy and several other characters. He also earned an Emmy nomination for the 1999 ABC movie “Tuesdays with Morrie.” His other credits include “Grosse Pointe Blank,” a recurring role on “Friends” and the upcoming feature “Shattered Glass.”
