In a disappointing turn of events, the Futurama panel at Comic Con yesterday did nothing to curb fans’ fears concerning the future of the show and it’s original voice cast. The good news, however, is that plenty of new information regarding the new season beginning next year was revealed.

The Simpsons and Futurama at Comic Con Tomorrow
Audience members of The Simpsons panel tomorrow at Comic Con 2009 can expect a sneak preview at the upcoming 20th Treehouse of Horror episode, “Treehouse of Horror XX”, along with further information regarding the 21st season of the show. Futurama will see representation at the convention also.

Futurama To Get Re-Cast?
When Futurama returns to TV next year, it might be without the show’s original voice cast. Talks have broken down between 20th Century Fox TV and stars Billy West, Katey Sagal, John DiMaggio, Maurice LaMarche and Tress MacNeille over how much they should be paid to take part in the show. As a result, 20th has put out a casting call to find replacement voice actors for the show’s new season.

More Futurama On Comedy Central!
EDIT 10/6: Today comes confirmation that Futurama will return in not 13, but 26 new 22-minute installments, to start airing in 2010! Good news, everyone! Collider.com reports today that an inside source tells them that another season of Futurama may be coming soon to Comedy Central. The rumor has it that 13 new installments of the series would be produced and shown on Comedy Central. Collider notes that this is still technically a rumor, but that they have been given word that the Futurama production offices have been opened and guest star casting has begun for upcoming episodes. Should this turn out to be true, we’d expect full confirmation by next month’s Comic Con.

Feature Length Futurama Episode Hits DVD
Simpsons Channel has been updating you on the brief comings and goings of Futurama since the show began, so it seems fitting to announce that the first of four feature-length episodes hits DVD around North America tomorrow.
The episode titled ‘Bender’s Big Score’ is a fantastic return to form for the show. After watching, you’ll begin to wonder why the show was axed and foremost why this episode wasn’t released to theaters alongside The Simpsons Movie. The first new episode since the show’s four year absence has all the ingredients which will make it one of the best Futurama episodes you’ll ever see. It is a delightful adventure into the past, present and future of planet earth featuring all the characters you already know and love as well as some new.
This along with the other to-be-released DVDs will eventually be spliced into individual episodes (one wonders just how) to air on Comedy Central next year. You can pick it up in stores tomorrow or purchase online at Amazon.

It’s Official! Futurama’s Back!
Comedy Central has resurrected the former Fox animated series from “The Simpsons” creator Matt Groening and David X. Cohen. At least 13 new episodes of Futurama will be produced — the first since the series’ original run from 1999-2003.
The new batch is part of a deal the cable network made with 20th Century Fox Television last year to pick up syndicated rights to the existing “Futurama” library of 72 episodes. Comedy Central also had an option to air any new episodes produced.
New and old episodes will begin airing in 2008 on Comedy Central. Actors Billy West, Katey Sagal and John DiMaggio have agreed to return as voices for “Futurama.”
“We are thrilled that Matt Groening and 20th Century Fox Television have decided to produce new episodes of ‘Futurama’ and that Comedy Central will be the first to air them,” said David Bernath, senior vice president for programming at the network.

Update On Futurama Status
In a move that has to be a big disappointment to Futurama fans, voice actor Billy West has recanted his earlier statement that the animated series would be returning with new episodes. On his website West apologized, explaining that he’d been misinformed and that 26 new episodes of the show will not be produced as he’d previously announced.
West added that there is still hope for a Futurama DVD project of some kind, as had been rumored before. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on any new word of further Futurama projects.

New Season Of Futurama In Works
Following on from our report two months ago regarding four direct-to-dvd Futurama movies being greenlit, Billy West has now unofficially confirmed that these have been put on the backberner in favour of 26 brand new episodes, meaning that Futurama as we know may well be back in business the same way Family Guy was revived last year.
Billy says: I’m this close to selling my show–”Billy Bastard–Amateur Human Being,” And the other good news is that they’re doing 26 new episodes of ”Futurama” for TV and we’re hammering out the deal now. The original plan was to have the DVD’s first but that’s no longer the case.I’m totaly jammed dude.

Futurama’s Back: Four Movies Greenlit!
Billy West, voice of Phillip J. Fry, Professor Farnsworth, and others, today confirmed via his website forum that new episodes of Futurama have been greenlit by FOX. The word from executive producer David X. Cohen was delivered to West today, with four straight-to-DVD full-length features ordered, obviously with the possibility of more or even a series revival depending on how those sell. The show’s production crew is expected to get back together and start recording the new material at the end of July or August this year.
While news of a direct-to-DVD release was confirmed in July last year, very little has been heard on the topic and we suspect even the show’s creators were even in the dark over details. The Simpsons Channel will endeavor to keep you informed on the latest Futurama news despite our Simpsons focus.

Futurama May Live Again On Fox
Variety reports that talks have begun at 20th Century Fox TV to revive Matt Groening’s animated series Futurama, which takes place in the next millennium. The studio is in early discussions to put Futurama back in production and create a limited number of episodes of the Emmy Award-winning series — although it’s too soon to tell where those episodes might end up, adds the trade. While reports of Futurama’s return have been loosely discussed in the past, this is the first time we’ve heard word of Fox taking an interest.
The final original episode of Futurama aired on Fox in August 2003. But since then, the series has found new life — and fans — via DVD releases and repeatedly high-rated airings on the Cartoon Network. Futurama remains popular enough that Comedy Central even stole away off-net rights to the show’s repeats late last year; it will switch to the comedy channel in 2008.

Cohen Hopeful Of Futurama Return
DVD sales of old episodes and the return of Family Guy under similar circumstances has bouyed Futurama creator Matt Groening and writer David X Cohen’s hopes that the show will return soon. “Three months ago, I would have said we were going to start tomorrow,” says Cohen in the article. “And one month ago I would also have said we were going to start tomorrow. So… my current estimate is that we’re starting tomorrow.” If Peter, Stewie, and company get a second chance, why can’t Fry, Leela, and Bender?

Futurama Direct To DVD Greenlit
Futurama’s back! Voice actor for Matt Groening’s late cartoon, Billy West (Fry, Zoidberg, Professor), revealed this weekend from San Diego’s Comic Con International that a brand-new direct-to-video Futurama movie has been greenlit. Not only that, but there is also an option for a second movie as well. With the model established by Family Guy’s return – where a direct-to-video movie eventually spawned the show’s return to Fox primetime as well – could the much-missed Futurama also be on the way back to a set near you? We’re sure Matt Groening and the gang would love to see themselves working back on Futurama in any shape or form, so this is definitely good news no matter what the decision could spawn in the future.
