More Simpsons DVD News
Fox is looking to give Simpsons fans a treat, with their not-so-pleasing attitude towards getting Season DVD’s out on time, they’ve lined up a number of special releases in attempt to keep you quiet (and to make money). TVShowsOnDVD.com has just reported about the second of two DVD specials that are set to be released within the next few months. “Information is scanty so far, but 20th Century Fox Home Entertaiment is announcing an October 14th release of The Simpsons Christmas Special. It looks to be in the same style as the recently announced Treehouse of Horror DVD, but this time the supplement is a Burns montage featurette. List pricing is expected to be $14.98 in the US ($16.98 in Canada).”

Treehouse Of Horror DVD
While we wait ever-so-patiently for the Season sets to slowly come to us, Fox has decided to trick us with a Halloween treat. A special Treehouse of Horror DVD comes to North America on September 2nd. The disc is a compilation of various Simpsons Halloween specials, and has been available in Regions 2 (United Kingdom And Europe) and 4 (Australia) since October last year.
Halloween specials XII, VII, VI, and V are included, as well as a bonus video montage of Kang and Kodo’s finest moments. For further details, see Australia’s EzyDVD description. Price is $14.98 American, $16.98 Canadian, though someone at SCS has found it available for $7.18 when pre-ordered.

Season 3: Amazon WRONG
Earlier this month we reported about a change in release date for the US release of the Season 3 DVD. TVShowsOnDVD.com have revealed that the new date released by Amazon.com was incorrect, so fans should not get too excited. From their comments, we can assume they have contacts at Fox who can back up their claims. “Fans of “The Simpsons” got excited recently when Amazon.com changed the release date of the set to July 30th (a Wednesday) and then to July 29th. All other retailers still listed August 26th as the release date, which is the proper date. We’re not sure why Amazon.com changed the release date of the set from the proper date to July 29th, but they are WRONG. Fox is going to contact them once again to have it straightened out. Bad Amazon, bad!” We have amended the date on our stickynotes box. Should there be any further developments we’ll be here to let you know.

Season 3 Pushed Forward?
We like to be as accurate as possible with our news, but in today’s story we’re unsure whether it’s fact or error that is involved. Amazon.com have changed their Season 3 DVD release date to July 30th, more or less a month earlier than its originally planned date. This is great news if it’s true. It’d be a hard error to make, being that it would require effort to change this date, so maybe Fox has pushed the release date forward due to demand or an unexpected earlier completion date. If anybody knows of other sites reporting a July 30th release, please let us know. Remember it was Amazon.com that first released official box art, so they’ve been nothing but reliable.

Season Three DVD Specs
“No, you don’t have to call the weather service to check the temperature in Hell. It looks as if The Simpsons Season Three is on track to make its August 26th release date, and today Fox issued the official specs for the multi-disc set that’ll retail for $49.98 when it hits stores in a few months.” See The Specs >>>
Note: As DVD release dates for different countries become available or have been changed, we will post them in the Stickynotes box on the right.

Season 3 DVD: August 26th
It’s the news you’ve been waiting for. The Simpsons: The Complete Third Season on DVD has been given a release date. Comingsoon.net reports today that “Fox Home Entertainment has set an August 26 street date for the release of the third season of The Simpsons on DVD. The studio had originally indicated season three would be out by June, then pushed the date back to July.”

Season 3 Box Art Revealed
Those of our visitors who are hanging out for the complete third season of The Simpsons on DVD, set your pants to wet. No, we don’t have any more info on a release date, but signs that the release is close have begun to appear. Amazon.com have just released an image of the box art for this edition. Click the image for a larger view. At this stage we have been told that the DVD will be released by July.

Season Three Set For July
With Fox keeping somewhat quiet in regard to the release of The Simpsons Season 3 DVD, we have to rely on other sources to bring us a piece of news that all of our visitors are demanding an answer to. Latest developments tell us that we could be waiting a little longer for the third season release. While we previously reported that May was to be the release date, May is just around the corner and it is seeming more unlikely that Fox will be able to deliver. Most recently, TVShowsOnDVD.com has reported that the third season of The Simpsons will be released in early July. While it has been a long wait, they know the set will be a quality release. The Success Of TV On DVD
“Sales of tv shows on DVD have become the fastest-growing segment of the home entertainment business, generating an estimated $800 million to $1 billion a year. When the digital disc format debuted five years ago, most studio executives figured that there would be little interest in shows from the small screen. Not so with the digital format. “TV DVDs are white-hot,” said Peter Staddon, senior vice president for marketing at Fox Home Video. “Everyone is rushing out DVD releases of their TV shows.” It’s no surprise that hits still on the air, such as The Simpsons and The Sopranos, are top sellers. But nostalgia also is fueling the trend.

Season 3 DVD Outlook
An online chat with Peter Staddon of 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment held on Monday saw the first details of The Simpsons Season 3 DVD revealed. In the chat held at Home Theater Forum, Staddon said “Simpsons does take a long time to develop, but you have to realise that Matt and Jim are very involved in the productions and they don’t have a lot of free time with getting the show out. Season 3 will probably be out in May 2003! I know, we would like to get it out earlier as well, but it is shaping up to have some really cool material on it.”
Staddon is asked again about the Simpsons DVD’s and once again stresses that “there is already some very cool stuff on the discs that will make season 3 much better.” To read the full chat transcript, click here. Thanks to Jouni for the link.
