Bart Simpson Takes On South Park
Bart Simpson switched networks for one night, to join forces with Eric Cartman in his quest to get Family Guy pulled off the air. In the South Park episode Cartoon Wars (Part II), A slightly different looking and sounding Bart Simpson exchanged words with Cartman and Kyle regarding the pulling of Family Guy. It is the second time creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker have directly referenced The Simpsons. In a 2002 episode titled ‘Simpsons Already Did It,’ the creators poked fun at the fact that The Simpsons had ran out of storylines.
But Trey and Matt love The Simpsons, as Trey said following that episode “For some reason people lump South Park and The Simpsons and any animated program together. [It’s] unfortunate that we have to be compared to one of the best shows on television ever. We never get compared to Sister, Sister or Small Wonder.” The Simpsons Gallery has a great rundown of all the scenes from the ep.

Bart Simpson Lends Helping Hand
Some churchgoers are drawing lessons about prayer from an unlikely source: Bart Simpson. The irreverent fourth-grader was the focus of discussion recently at Pasadena Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. It was the second installment of the church’s series “The Gospel of the Simpsons,” which uses the satirical show as a catalyst for spiritual discussions. That day, an episode of the show, “Bart Gets An F,” was projected onto a screen in the church sanctuary. After watching the episode the group of 18, several of them students, read a prayer from Psalms and the Lord’s Prayer and compared them to Bart’s prayer from the show. “He did have faith,” said Janice MacMillan, 53, of Pasadena. “He said, ‘Thank you in advance.’ He believed.” Bill Pixley, 63, of Pasadena said that Bart’s prayer showed how people often want God to rescue them even though they don’t deserve it. “We want someone to cover us even though we’re guilty,” he said.

Can You Outsmart Bart?
Bart Simpson has found his way onto the cover of this week’s Entertainment Weekly magazine (9th April 2004 edition). The magazine itself doesn’t include a Simpsons feature, but he appears on the cover to promote their Great American Pop Culture Quiz for the 90s. The quiz includes 100 entertainment related questions to test your knowlege of the 90s. The Simpsons are only mentioned in two of the questions, but Bart makes a great coverboy for the quiz in general, having got an A+ himself. The answers are jotted on his hands, legs and arms. The magazine is available to buy right now.
