On the eve of the show’s 500th episode, viewer interest in The Simpsons took a turn for the worst. A total of 4.33 million viewers watched Sunday night’s episode ‘The Daughter Also Rises’, giving it the not-so-prestigious honor of becoming the least-watched episode in the show’s history – a feat previously reached not so long ago by last year’s ‘The Great Simpsina’.
- “The Daughter Also Rises” (season 23) – 4.33 million
- “The Great Simpsina” (season 22) – 4.99 million
- “Politically Inept, With Homer Simpson” (season 23) – 5.11 million
- “Million Dollar Maybe” (season 21) – 5.11 million
- “Moe Goes From Rags To Riches” (season 23) – 5.12 million
It’s the third time this season we’ve had to break out the ugly ‘bottom five’ list. Understandably so, this week’s major competition in the 54th Annual Grammy Awards was too strong, scoring a massive 39 million viewers – the second-most-watched Grammy’s of all time (43.8 million was achieved in 1984). Viewer’s interest in the ceremony was at a high due to the unfortunate death of singer/actress Whitney Houston.
Fox was overall fourth for the night. Napoleon Dynamite had 3.81 million viewers, Family Guy had 4.99 million, while American Dad had a very low 3.54 million viewers.
Figures are likely to recover for the 500th episode “At Long Last Leave” airing next Sunday due to increased promotion. You can rate Sunday’s episode below:

Simply put, I think this ep has more laughs than any episode in the past year or two. It had a somewhat weak ending, with Lisa’s relationship fizzling out as it did, but was otherwise fantastic. 🙂
Darn it Fox. Couldn’t you play Men in Black 2 or something like that instead of a new Simpsons on the same night as the grammys? When will they learn?
