Sunday’s 46th annual Grammy Awards telecast delivered its highest numbers in three years, driving CBS to an easy victory for the night. This left The Simpsons with its lowest figures in quite some time, rating fourth in its timeslot with just 8.9 million viewers.
Overall for the night, CBS averaged a 14.2 rating/22 share, good enough for a wide margin of victory over second place NBC’s 7.2/11. ABC took third at 6.1/9, with FOX a distant fourth at 3.9/6. Figures were much of the same in the coveted 18 – 49 demographic. The Grammys began at 8 p.m. and gave CBS a 15.7/23 for the first hour. “Dateline” improved to an 8.3/12 in second, still ahead of ABC’s “Pearl Harbor.” FOX was back in fourth with the 4.5/7 average between “The Simpsons” and “The Bernie Mac Show.” The WB was fifth with the 2.8/4 for “Charmed.”
