Last night’s episode ‘Father Knows Worst’ entered the danger zone, the below 6 million viewer mark. 5.94 million viewers tuned in to the show, just shy of the record for least-watched episode of all time (Lisa The Drama Queen, 5.75 million). It becomes the second least-watched episode ever, pushing March episode ‘Gone Maggie Gone” (5.97 million) into third place.
At 8:30, the second outing of new show ‘Sit Down Shut Up’ had a paltry 4.20 million viewers. If you listen closely you can hear the sharpening of an axe. The show acted as a poor lead-in to Fox’s ‘Family Guy’ which, too, had its ratings dented at 6.80 million. American Dad followed with 5.15 million viewers. Fox was fourth overall for the night and tied second with CBS among adults 18 – 49.

Haha. So true. When The Simpsons drop down to that level, then we start to fret and worry.
i thought that they could have gone more into depth with the story. both lisa being popular and marge in the sauna weren’t in depth at all.
Listen the episodes are good and all but the ratings have been going down because of hulu, hulu.com releases episodes of the shows in less then a day so people can watch something else while they watch it the next day the ratings would be fine without hulu.

this eppisode was great. if i was in da U.S. i wud get 50 tvs and turn dem all on when da simpsons starts. lol
it was such a great episode, possibly best in season 20, so why the low ratings??? It makes no sense!
What a shame that this episode got such low ratings. If you ask me it was the best Simpsons episode of the last five years. I thought it was up to the level of seasons 7 or 8, in fact. Everyone was given a funny and interesting storyline, all of which intersected well, and no one was too flawed or obnoxious.
Also, I don’t think Hulu is a problem for the show, because Fox keeps track of how many people watch The Simpsons on Hulu and takes that into account. These ratings only account for how many people watched the broadcast premiere, not the overall number of people who saw the episode.
I don’t think it’s that surprising at all. Family Guy’s ratings prove the depression is not solely a hulu effect. The Simpsons simply cannot be counted on to deliver great content regularly. They have lost current youth, and now old timers are moving on as well. Also, Father Knows Worst is only a good episode because it’s surrounded by really bad episodes. To Santos, in no way would it stand in seasons 7 or 8. Those writers would have been more clever than to use a hidden sauna as a plot device.
There not that bad. if a sunday night comedy rated like that where I live (The UK) it would be called a sucess. Sure they’re not great, but it could do much worse. I appreciate America is bigger than Britain, The Simpsons ratings have fallen how oir soap operas have, about a 1-2 million a year
This was one of my favorite season 20 episodes.
But ratings like that make it seem worse.
