Is this your first look at the new High Definition opening credits? Fox has today released a promotional image for ‘Take My Life, Please’ which will be the first episode broadcast in HD on February 15. This time, the promotional image has nothing to say about the episode, but gives hints as to what you might expect the new opening to look like. As promised, there will be numerous references to the last 19 seasons dotted around the credits, replacing characters such as Jacques and Bleeding Gums Murphy who have forever been prominent in the show’s opening despite their deaths or lack of appearance. The promotional image shows a crisper update to the opening scene at Springfield Elementary. A photo of Homer the astronaut on the wall next to the chalkboard, a reference to 1994s ‘Deep Space Homer’, is prominent but is somewhat out of place. Who knows what else the new opening sequence has in store for us.
As for the episode, it’s a ‘what-if’ flashback much like flash-forwards ‘Bart To The Future’ and ‘Lisa’s Wedding’. A man named Vance Connor is inducted into the Springfield Walk of Fame and Homer recounts how he ran against Vance for class president in high school and lost. A cook at Luigi’s Restaurant uses his magical tomato sauce to help Homer see what his life would have been like had he won the election.
