The 2,459th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame went to none other than animator, cartoonist, writer, and producer Matt Groening. The ceremony in Los Angeles was attended by Simpsons cast members Yeardley Smith, Hank Azaria, and Nancy Cartwright.
Groening told the crowd he was once told by a FOX executive that “No network TV show can possibly succeed that has an eight-year-old girl saying the word ennui.” How they were wrong.
On Monday it was announced that Matt Groening had donated $500,000 to the UCLA’s school of Theatre. The money will go to create a Matt Groening Chair for Animation to allow visiting artists to teach classes.
The Simpsons got its own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2000. It’s located just a few stars away from Groening’s.
Congratulations Matt!
I thought the simpsons got their star in 2000?
You are correct, must have been been a typo.
