Hey everyone out there in Simpson-Land! Like I mentioned in my previous post, I want to start a thing called Character Highlights where we dig deep into a character, discuss whether they are under-rated or not, how they progressed through the years, and whatever else might come through our minds!
So, to start it off, I decided to go with MY favorite character in the whole show : Marge Simpson! To me, she’s the glue of the house-hold, has some of the funniest lines in the show’s history, and I personally think she’s heavily under-rated. Through the years on the show though, it seems as if she might have been “dumb”ed down to balance out Homer’s increasing stupidity. Regardless of that, I’d love to hear some of your input on the woman of the Simpsons household! What’s your favorite episode based around her? What’s your favorite line? Anything you’d like to say about Marge, whether it be criticism or praise, I’d love to hear it! Let me start this off !
Favorite Episode based around Marge : Fear of Flying – Just a flat out hilarious, solid episode that digs deeper into Marge!
Favorite Line – “Those writers make me so mad, like a . . . Yak in heat!” from “Itchy and Scratchy and Poochie”.
Marge: “I feel like Princess Grace and Princess Di smashed together!”
You quoted Marge incorrectly.
“It’s not your fault, Homer. It’s those lousy writers. They make me madder than a… yak in heat!”
Some of the Marge episodes I like: Itchy and Scratchy and Marge, Brush with Greatness, Marge Gets a Job, The Springfield Connection, Large Marge, and Strong Arm of the Ma.
You are quite right, Marge is hilarious:
“President Bush is driving on our lawn! He must be lost ….”
Then there is:
“I’m about as exciting as a baked potato.” “You’re darn right you are Ned! And you’ve got lots of other great qualities too!”
And of course:
“[Marge], you’re always trying to give me potatoes. What is it with you?” “I just think they’re neat.”
Marge is a great character, she’s the perfect mom and housewife.
I love how she goes overboard with the housekeeping. She irons her trash bags before placing them in the garbage can.
She mentioned once that she always makes a few practice dinners before the real thing at 6 o’clock.
Marge can be really funny, she’s definitely under rated.
The episode where she goes to jail and leaves Homer alone with the kids makes it pretty clear how important she is.
