The Simpsons aired its 500th episode in North America last night. Today, the Los Angeles Times posted a Q&A with Matt Groening on reaching 500 episodes.

Matt Groening Gets a Walk of Fame Star
The 2,459th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame went to none other than animator, cartoonist, writer, and producer Matt Groening. The ceremony in Los Angeles was attended by Simpsons cast members Yeardley Smith, Hank Azaria, and Nancy Cartwright.

Simpsons Fans Break World Record
100 Simpsons fans accepted FOX’s challenge to attempt to break the world record for the longest continuing television viewing by watching continuing Simpsons episodes. Two of them did it, each taking home a $10,500 prize and bunch of Simpsons merchandise. Congratulations to both Jeremiah Franco and Carin Shreve!

In celebration of The Simpsons’ 500th episode on February 19th… FOX is inviting fans of the show to participate in The Simpsons Ultimate Fan Marathon Challenge at Hollywood & Highland in Los Angeles. They are challenging fans to break the current world record of 86 hours, 6 minutes and 41 seconds for the longest continuous television viewing by watching continuous Simpsons episodes.

Kim Jong-Il Parody
North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il had a lot of parodies made about him before his death last week. On the Simpsons season 23 premiere episode “The Falcon and the D’oh Man” the show poked fun at the dictator in a musical titled “Being Short is No Hinderance to Greatness”.
