Season 16 ended on Sunday night with two new episodes, ‘Home Away From Homer,’ and ‘The Father, The Son, & The Holy Guest Star.’ In what was one of Fox’s last few hopes of increasing its performance in the May sweeps, an average of 8.7 million viewers watched The Simpsons over the 8pm hour, down on the previous two weeks. The big result was Family Guy’s huge figure of 9.3 million viewers, and the Simpson-nearing figure of 8.1 million viewers for American Dad. The night was a big one for all networks, with CBS airing the finale of Survivor Palau and ABC with the unstoppable Desperate Housewives. While 20 million people tuned into Survivor, ABC came home with the win overall for the night, with NBC and FOX sitting at third and fourth place respectively.
