A total of 7.76 million viewers tuned in for the twenty-second season premiere of The Simpsons. The Glee-inspired episode titled ‘Elementary School Musical’ received mixed reception by fans on our website prior to the airing — did your original thoughts hold up?
The show has lost 550,000 viewers from last year’s premiere “Homer The Whopper”, but is still an improvement on the second episode from last year “Lost Verizon”. Elementary School Musical was the lowest rating Season Finale on record, but the drop is not significant enough to worry about at this stage.
The second season premiere of The Cleveland Show had 6.60 million viewers, while a one-hour season premiere of Family Guy averaged out at 9.13 million viewers.

I feel episodes about Lisa are destined to do poorly because no offense Lisa fans. Lisa is boring and to involve the whole episode around her didn’t help. The next episode is also about Lisa WTF ! FOX should have kicked off the season with a strong episode not one of the weaker ones.

Lisa episodes are destined to do poorly?
Some of my favorite simpsons episodes are Lisa episodes: Summer of 4 ft. 2, Lisa on Ice, Lisa the vegetarian, Lisa the Simpson, Lisa’s Wedding – to name some earlier ones. And more recently I thought her role in the Squirt & the Whale, The olympics curling episode where she collected olympic pins, The Good, Sad, the drugly – to name a few new ones was really funny.
She’s one of my favorite characters and because she doesn’t deliver the haha’s of a Homer is no reason to count her out.
That said, I didn’t think this episode was all that great. But I didn’t enjoy the 1 hour premier of Family Guy either. I thought it was a little slow and boring myself.
I just hate Lisa episodes because they’re usually used as a soapbox for the writers to whine about stuff. They’re rarely about Lisa dealing with her flaws, and more about her battling with idiots (i.e. people with views that the writers don’t agree with). It definitely makes it hard for viewers to put up with her episodes if if you don’t share or cares about her beliefs.
Terrible, anyone who voted “5/5 awesome” truely has NO mind!

Ratings are not so bad compared to others FOX TV Series by A18-49 and A18-34 any way. That’s why The Simpsons DO have strong ratings.

why did they start the season off so badly, if the whole season is going to be this bad i might as well stop watching right now. 4.5/10
I am about as optimistic as it comes, but what a blowout for a first episode. I agree, a lisa episode is destined to fail most of the time. This episode would have been acceptable during like the NFL playoff games where you are expected to not watch, but not good season premier material. You had the cast of glee, which as much as I hate that show, it pulls in viewers. You pulled them in and then threw them away. Lets hope next week improves!

chicks are the ones that like glee… u think guys who like simpsons want to watch an episode starring the glee cast?… i doubt it. as much as i hate glee I thought the glee cast would help the ratings but clearly it didn’t
I predict next episode Loan-a-Lisa (ALSO ABOUT LISA!) will fail miserably.
I am really disappointed on how Season 22 started.

I like Lisa but to revolve the first 2 episodes of Season 22 around her isn’t the best choice.
i dont get it right, simpsons is a big show, loads of celebritys have tried to get on the simpsons, but they go get some of the crap ones, some of the special guests look real good for this season, but starting with glee was useless, they werent even in it that long
This episode could have been better but no they opened it with some piece of junk! Some parts were fine but even the sub-plot was pretty lame. Although the next two episodes are about lisa i hope they do better before the next treehouse of horror which by the way is set to air november 7th(could not be true)

I didn’t think this was the right way to start the new season, even though Lisa is one of my favorites. I, personally, despise Glee.
It wasn’t a bad episode, it just wasn’t great.
The music was great, as it always is on the show, some moments were pretty funny, and I liked how it showed the struggling artist life (Alot of my personal life, haha.).
I must say the B-Story was pretty lame. I hope this season improves (:
Not bad. It was kind of waste that they marketed the episode by showing promos of the Glee cast, because most of the emphasis was on the FOTC cast. The music was pretty lame, even during FOTC’s first rap. But I will say this… FOTC absolutely killed it in this episode.
and yes, I do mean that in a good way.
