A total of 6.40 million viewers watched Sunday night’s new episode ‘Eeny Teeny Maya Moe’. These figures are about average for the show nowadays. A 9.30 repeat of ‘The Burns And The Bees’ had 5.61 million, which is about what a new American Dad would have gotten in the same slot. Fox was fourth overall for the night but came second in the target demographic 18 – 49. Two repeats of Family Guy took up the 8.30 – 9.30 slot, and averaged to an audience of 6.04 million viewers.

A rerun of ‘Lisa The Drama Queen’ — worst rating episode ever — airs next Sunday. It’ll be interesting to see what the repeat pulls! New episodes are back on April 19 with ‘The Good, The Sad and the Drugly’
This is not big surprise: It’s obviously that Simpsons auditorium is between 6.5 and 7 million viewers.
We can always blame FOX and it’s politic about the Simpsons, blame some other shows or anything else, but the fact is that Simpsons lost their reputation, and this numbers are reality…
I hope that numbers will not go even under 6.5, and I don’t think that there’s a possibility that the golden age of the show will be ever back again… 🙁
Simpsons went down in quality to appeal to Family Guy humour.
Around season 11 it started to get worse and wouldn’t you believe it, that’s when Family Guy came out.
That has taken its toll.
The show is never going to recover from this; it’s done.
It’s really sad but the characters are parodies of themselves; there’s no depth.
Homer is stupid and wacky.
Marge is ditsy and nagging.
Bart is stupid.
Lisa complains about things.
Maggie acts like she’s not a baby.
Woohoo.
While its indisputable that the series has declined in quality (IMO since season 14) fans overestimate the severity of that decline. If you compare newer episodes line for line with episodes from the golden age (IMO seasons 4-9) I believe you’ll find that the disparity isn’t so great. Its just that in the mid-90s this stuff seemed so outrageous, original, and subversive compared to much of the competition, i.e. Home Improvement, Step By Step, etc.
Now with South Park et al, younger fans see Homer as Peter Griffin Lite. Those shows have the unfair advantage of being essentially ‘R’ rated. Its best to appreciate The Simpsons for what it offers that the competetion doesn’t, namely fantastic animation and occasionally intellectual humor. I have followed the series passionately since the Tracy Ullman days, and while I certainly admit that some of the new stuff can be groan-inducingly stale, each new season seems to produce 8-12 amusing episodes, and that’s enough to keep me watching.
But they need to throw in the towel soon before they completely tarnish the legacy of the most ground-breaking and consistently funny series in TV history.
You’re deluding yourself.
Before seasons 11+, Homer was a well meaning idiot, not a overgrown child like he is now. He has become more like Peter Griffin.
The animation is NOT fantastic. It’s better than the competition but it’s hardly fantastic.
Agreed. Homer has evolved from a foolish jackass to an overly silly, flailing clown. And yeah, I know the animation ain’t WALL-E, but I think its great by television standards-just look at the crap on adult swim.
Not a really great episode. I can’t help but feel that as time goes on (post season 19 is no exception) The Simpsons have writing that’s less like the Simpsons and more like Saved By the Bell. It’s kinda creeping me out. I especially hated that one line at the end. “I never thought a girl so small can make me feel so big.” Really? REALLY? Sigh…Okay.
I think the show uses too much gross-out, “edgy” crap nowadays. And, if I’m being honest, there have been a lot of “queer/tranny” jokes recently. This is a personal issue for me, but it really ruined everything when I realised that the writers considered “LOL TRANNIES” to be an entire joke, and would fall back onto “gay men like Judy Garland and calling Millhouse a girl is funny” when they felt scenes needed more yuks. I’m not saying that people can’t make humour out of sensitive topics, but it’s a very fine and delicate process and involves a bit more than just saying “lol fags are gay” or whatever.
Also, this episode seemed really contrived in the way that Maya left just so Moe wouldn’t have a girlfriend at the end of the episode. It didn’t seem natural.
I thought that this episode was a very good one!
“Wedding For Disaster” may have been a little better, but I loved this one! 🙂
Seems TV ratings in general just don’t have the impact they used to be. I imagine the other means of obtaining the material is some kind of factor in this.
The new episodes (since about 16) have clearly declined to the point where the show is quite poor, but I think I’d be giving people too much credit by saying that’s why the show’s ratings have fallen. On the contrary, many people seem to be saying the show is better than it was in the middle years. I don’t buy it, at least not in the way the actual product is executed. Of course, it is a matter of taste and people are entitled to like what they like.
This episode in particular was pleasant enough. Maybe an average episode around season 14, but I can’t give it too much credit for being better than most recently.
When do you think the series will be canceled?
NEVER.
THE SIMPSONS LIVE AND WILL LIVE FOREVER
That was a great eposode but Moe said some mean jokes.
